Best AVCHD Codec – CoreAVC

What:
AVCHD video compression has become quite common nowadays and often people encounter these 5 letters when they buy their first HD camcorder. AVCHD compression is compatible with the Blu-Ray, so it is convenient to burn your HD videos to a Blu-Ray disc. You will find more and more HD video files around the internet that are compressed with AVCHD format. AVCHD compression requires a lot of processing power from a computer so people will often notice that their computer is not powerful enough to playback the AVCHD compressed HD video file.

Why:
As AVCHD video playback requires a lot of processing power, you will need a powerful hardware or an optimized software video codec which makes CPU and GPU processing easier. AVCHD video is extremely compressed video format and even if you have relative powerful PC, you might encounter slow or jerky HD video playback. It is not necessarily wise trying to upgrade your hardware before you have tried if a more efficient software decoding codec can save the day.

How:
CoreAVC video codec is probably the best method to increase playback performance of AVCHD compressed video. It’s software decoding even matches with many powerful hardware decoding which means that you do not need to purchase more powerful computer to get better and smoother HD video playback, but it is enough to get this video codec. In addition, you will need a media player software that is capable of utilizing CoreAVC video codec. Not all media players allow to use third party codecs, but there are some that do. The best player I have came across for this purpose is the KMPlayer. Even my 1.8 GHz CPU equipped laptop was able to play smoothly AVCHD video after getting the CoreAVC codec and KMPlayer. Before this codec, it was impossible to play any HD videos as all I was seeing was a series of still images.
