Boxee on TV – How You Can Optimize Your Experience

The Boxee Box is an amazing media center that combines a social twist. In order to get the best experience with Boxee on TV, there are a few things you need to do. These things include using remote, properly naming and organizing files, utilizing the background capabilities, and accessing sites like Hulu.

Get a good remote control

The IPTV Boxee does have the capabilities to work great with a mouse and a keyboard. However, when you use a remote control with this media center, it outshines most other devices. There are many remote controls that work great with the media center. These include the Logitech Harmony series, the white remote that comes with the Apple TV, and the aluminum Windows Media Center remote. You don’t have to buy a remote either if you own an iPod touch, iPhone, or a link to iTunes. The Boxee can be controlled through Wi-Fi remote applications also. When you choose a remote control for a Mac, be sure to install the preference pane utility.

Optimize naming and organizing media files

Naming and organizing your files properly will help you reduce time spent looking for items and scanning for updates. It might have to spend a bit of time organizing and naming files, but it will be worth it to you in the long run. The best way to organize your files is by media type. This doesn’t have to be specific to albums or artists. However, music should go in a music folder and movies in a movie folder. This will allow the Boxee to associate files with Meta data automatically. Also, be sure to make shortcuts to the most frequently used folders and programs you like to view or listen to. The home screen layout of the Boxee is one of the best features because of the capabilities of adding shortcuts.

Customize the interface

Boxee already has a cool look, but you can customize it and make the media center your own. The background can be changed under the settings option. You can even make the interface rotate through your favorite photos. All you have to do is point the background to a folder containing your favorite pics. People love the ability to make their interface appear with their own personality by customizing the background on the screen.

Optimize Hulu watching experience

Hulu works with Boxee using the built in Mozilla-based browser. This is because it associates the different shows in the database with the Hulu counterparts. You do need to be a certain age to watch Hulu content and you will need to login. This is the only disadvantage because you cannot just use your remote but you will need to login. Login to Hulu in Firefox and then you will be able to use this feature.
