Acer Revo Review – Excellent Low Budget Nettop

Acer Revo review is written from a HTPC usage perspective, although many people are using these small nettop PCs for everyday use.

Good Graphics Card and HDMI-Output

Compared to most other nettop computers, Acer Aspire Revo has very strong specification for its price. It has NVIDIA Ion graphic card which has very strong performance.

It is not so common to have a HDMI connection directly on the nettop PC, which allows you to get both audio and video from your TV without need for additional cables. This is particularly important for users without additional A/V receiver. Just plug the HDMI cable into your TV and you are ready to watch your first movie.

Can Handle HD Video

Acer Aspire Revo R3610 can play up to 1080p HD video, but not directly out of the box. It requires some skills to tweak the system which means installing the Windows 7 operating system, most recent drivers and codecs. For example, make sure you upgrade to the latest NVIDEA drivers.

The Revo works really good (I am told) with the latest version of XBMC, which provides full hardware acceleration for all HD modes. Revo users have not had any problems playing back .MKS or watching broadcast HDTV in 720p or 1080i.

It is recommended to use software such as the KMPlayer, Splash media player or VLC to be able to play HD video files. Media Centers such as Boxee requires too much CPU performance and are not working well with HD content on this computer.

Extremely Small and Energy Efficient

If size is a purchasing factor, this one has extremely small foot-print. It is silent and consumes very little energy. This is important if you are placing the computer to your TV cabinet as over heating is an issue with meny computers. Fortunately, Acer Revo runs cool and does not require any additional ventilation in a TV cabinet.

Low Price

If you are looking for a HTPC without breaking the bank, then this is for you. At this price, you can not find a better HTPC. We really cannot understand how Acer can sell this device at this price as it has a lot better specification than many of the more expensive nettops.

Conclusion

Acer Aspire RevoThere are always cons with the nettop computers as HTPCs, but with price tag around $300 you can simply get Acer Revo R3610 to your living room and see what it does for you. These four reasons highlighted that this is one of the best HTPC at this price range with good enough performance for HD video including a HDMI-output connection.
