According to The New York Times, there is some new information about the suspected Google TV-project. Now it seems that Google, Intel and Sony are working together for the Google TV-project.
Google TV together with the super alliance of several companies could provide more integrated future for the living room TVs.
The purpose of the Google TV is to bring the internet content into the living room through the devices equipped with the Android Operating System. Using the open development platform everyone could be able to develop their own applications intended for the living room use. These applications could be e.g. photo viewing apps, Twitter and Facebook message applications and so on. Obviously these devices would support video streaming services such as YouTube and Hulu.
According to the rumors the first products are being expected to be released during the summer 2010. Naturally the members of this alliance have not commented about the rumors, but it seems that both Intel and Sony are recruiting more Android developers. Possibly also Logitech belongs to this super alliance who would produce the remote controls and keyboards.
Nowadays, there are already a lot of computers and devices intended for the living room use, but as there is no common standards markets are very fragmented. Due to this market fragmentation the new Google TV together with the super alliance of several companies could provide more integrated future for the living room TVs. We have been discussing earlier about the media cloud concept so this Google TV-project fits nicely to the growing need of streaming the media content from the centralized cloud in the internet.
