Here is an easy guide to stream music from the Spotify to your AV receiver in the living room utilizing your existing iPod Touch, iPhone or iPad (later iDevice). In case you have not already heard about Spotify, read here more about this great online music service.
The Apple Airport Express is a tiny router that is easy to hide in the living room. The great advantage of this router is that you can extend existing wireless home network if you do not have sufficient wireless coverage in your home.
The advantage of Apple Airport Express router is that you can connect it to your AV receiver with a standard 3.5 mm stereo cable or Toslink-to-Optical mini plug digital cable.
Next, you can customize your AV receiver’s input selection, so that it is easy for other family members to find the right input channel. For example, I renamed the input as Airplay, because I also stream audio from my desktop PC wireless to the AV receiver.
If you have a universal remote such as Logitech Harmony, you can program a separate activity for listening to songs, too.
There is an app available for iPod Touch and iPhones which allows you to access the online media library. If you get the Premium subscription, you will also be able to listen to music in the offline mode.
This way you do not need to worry about buying tunes as with a moderate monthly fee you can have access to millions of songs online.
Once you have started the playback of a song, just activate the Airplay functionality in the same place where you adjust the volume in the Spotify app.
The great advantage of connecting the iDevice wireless via the Apple Airport Express is that you can take the device with you anywhere in your home and still control the MP3 played back in your living room (or even in multiple rooms if you have several Airport Express routers).
