If you like to browse internet comfortable from your sofa, you have probably realized that without changing font size or zooming, the text is simply too small to read from a distance. I think now I have found the best HTPC browser.
I have been using the Safari browser for some time as the zooming capabilities have been quite good, particularly as I have programmed the zoom functionality as an air gesture to my Logitech MX Air Mouse.
However, I have found it cumbersome to zooming in every time I open a new window or a new session, so I started to find for a simpler way to default the zoom to e.g. 150%. Fortunately, there is a nice small plugin for Firefox browser called NoSquint. NoSquint allows you to default the full page zoom level to a certain percentage, so that you do not need every time change the zoom level.
You can find the it here.
NoSquint Firefox add-on is particularly useful for those who have connected their computer to HDTV. It allows you easily enlarge the text of any webpage and still keep the original format of the webpage.
The NoSquint sets 120% zooming as a default, but you can easily change it depending on your viewing distance. According to my experience, it is better to change the default zoom level to 150% to be able to view the text from the 10-foot distance.
As an additional tip, remember the following keyboard combinations to change the default zoom levels:
ctrl + = increase page size
ctrl shift + = increase font size
Now, I have changed the default browser from Safari to Firefox in my HTPC simply because of this add-on. Download the NoSquint and see if it solves your “small text” issues as well.
