Nintendo Wii revolutionized the way how we can control game consoles with the WiiMote remote control. Logitech MX Air has been around for quite a while now, but thus far there has not been any other device for HTPC use that has beaten this wonderful controlling device.
Adjusting volume with gestures in the air

MX Air mouse looks probably more like a remote control than a mouse and thus fits perfectly to the living room design with it’s sleek and black design. Instead of moving the mouse on a surface, the air mouse is being used in the air just like a remote control. The receiver uses RF-technology, so it works without line of sight. Under the main left- and right-buttons there are some useful shortcut buttons that you can program according to your liking. It also supports air gestures, such as turning volume higher and lower by simply waving your hands.
Learning to use takes only minutes
Air mouse is being used like remote control, so you need to get use to a new way of controlling the cursor on the screen. Learning to use the mouse takes only minutes and for example my family members and visitors instantly adopted the use of the air mouse. The controlling is surprisingly accurate and you can align the cursor by moving the mouse to the corners of the screen or alternatively gently shaking the mouse.
Smooth movement
The movement of the cursor on the screen is really smooth. It feels like holding a remote control when browsing the web pages on TV. If I lose the position of the cursor, I can simply shake the device to return the cursor to the default position.
Replacing other remotes
I particularly like the fact that air mouse has actually replaced the remote control I used to turn the volume up and down. As we mainly watch the TV using the media center PC, it is natural to adjust the volume simply by waving your hand while controlling. The battery life is sufficient for a day or two usage and the air mouse comes together with a docking station where you can place the mouse for charging.
All in all, Logitech MX Air continues to be the best HTPC mouse for home theater PC usage. In fact, now that my existing MX Air is showing some signs of aging, my wife is already suggesting ordering a new MX Air.
