Why
Airport Extreme combines wireless networking and a gigabit Ethernet capabilities which is an ideal solution if you are planning to have an external network hard drive. Gigabit Ethernet is significantly faster compared to the normal routers. Thus using external network hard drive is no different from using an internal hard drive from performance point of view. Airport Extreme follows Apple’s simple design philosophy so is an ideal choice as an wireless gigabit router in your living room. This means that you can place the router nicely to TV bench as it is a lot more stylish than other wireless routers I have seen before. You can also connect an external USB hard drive to the Airport Extreme to turn it as a network hard drive. This is very useful feature if you wish to share media files between differet computers.

Another point in getting Apple Airport Extreme as a base station is that you can extend the wireless network range with Airport Express. Airport Express is a smaller and lighter version of the Extreme and is ideal for extending a network if you already have another Apple router. Setting up is simple and easy thanks to the Airport Utility that comes in the package. The Airport Extreme is compatible with both Mac OSX and Windows computers.
